Basho Design: The Zen Meditation Chair from Denmark-based Basho Design has been produced with a high level of ergonomic knowledge to create a unique and exclusive piece of furniture. A perfect addition to chillout spaces in spas, the shape of the chair is said to hold the spine in perfect alignment, supporting the body so it can relax into an 'open' position where meditation can happen more easily. According to Basho Design, sitting comfortably with crossed legs, close to the floor, has been shown to give a good grounding and allows energy to circulate and be contained in the lower part of the body. The chair's designer, Shayar Hansen, said: "Our vision and inspiration is to create beautiful furniture that forms a frame for aligning our bodies to facilitate the expansion of our consciousness. We see our meditation furniture in a range of environments, such as spas, yoga studios and retreat centres as well as in homes, where parents can be close to their children playing on the floor."
